Family Orthodontics in San Antonio, TX
Your smile deserves the very best, so when your child’s teeth come in crooked or misaligned you may be wondering whether or not they could benefit from braces. If you are on the fence about getting orthodontics for your child or teen, the team at Alamo Kids Dental can provide you with the information you need to decide whether braces are appropriate.
What is the purpose of braces?
When should my child be evaluated?
Wondering if your child’s teeth may benefit from braces or whether
teeth will simply straighten out as their mouth continues to develop? This
is something that our dental team can determine when you bring your child
in for an evaluation.
The best time for an orthodontic evaluation is age 7. We know this might sound a little young, but this is the perfect time to examine both your child’s permanent and baby teeth and monitor how their jaws are developing. If your child is older than 7 years old, don’t fear that you’re too late. The majority of our patients don’t actually get braces until between the ages of 9 and 16, so there is time.
Shouldn’t we wait until all permanent teeth erupt?
It might seem like you should wait until all of your child’s
permanent teeth come in before your child is evaluated by an orthodontist,
but you shouldn’t wait too late. By examining your child’s
teeth when it’s a mix of permanent and baby teeth we can make
correcting misaligned and crooked smiles much easier. It’s much
easier to fix these problems while your child’s face and jaw are
still developing.
